As sports continues to slowly be woven back into the tapestry of normal over the next few weeks, Governor Andy Beshear said Tuesday that sports camps can resume June 15 so long as they meet the guidelines established under child care facilities.
High school sports teams hold summer instructional camps as fundraisers for their programs. Some colleges also hold their own instructional camps for high school teams. While it’s not known what colleges may choose to have camps, the governor said other camps will be allowed to begin June 15 if they meet the state’s Healthy at Work guidelines.
Youth sports will be allowed to begin June 15 as well. KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett said he interprets youth sports to be those below the middle school level. He added that the KHSAA will follow the governor’s guidelines and input from the Kentucky Public Health Commission in determining how to resume high school sports.
