Phillip Cotton, a former standout basketball player at Dawson Springs and middle school coach, has been named the girls’ basketball coach at Hopkins County Central.

Cotton has coached at South Hopkins Middle School and the Southern Shooters AAU team.

“Hopkins County Central is very excited to have Coach Cotton accept the position of Lady Storm basketball coach.  He has been greatly involved in organizing and coaching the KY Shooters AAU team which is made up of players from this area, and he was a tremendous player who knows a lot about teaching fundamentals and understands the game of basketball.  We believe his passion for the sport will lead to great things for our program,” said Hopkins County Central High School Athletic Director Kent Akin.

Cotton was a prolific scorer at Dawson Springs High School where he was named All-State honorable mention after leading the state in scoring as a senior.

He takes over the Lady Storm program from Nancy Oldham, who stepped down in March after two years in her second stint as head coach.  The Lady Storm were 9-18 last year and are expected to return most of their roster in 2020-21.
