Former Trigg County football coach Coby Lewis will be joining Craig Clayton’s staff at Hopkinsville High School. The team acknowledged the transaction on their Twitter page Thursday afternoon.
Lewis stepped down as Trigg County head coach in March after a 45-53 record in nine seasons. The Wildcats were 6-5 in 2019.
Lewis played fullback for Trigg County and was a member of the 1989 state runner-up team. He served as an assistant coach at Trigg County and Madisonville before taking over as Trigg County head coach in 2011.
He will coach defense and special teams, according to the social media post, and will teach social studies at Hopkinsville High School.
Lewis will join one of his former assistant coaches at Hopkinsville. Adam Turner, who coached the Trigg linemen in 2017-18, was announced as a line coach at Hopkinsville on May 16.
Hopkinsville was 8-4 in 2019 and lost to Madisonville in the second round of the playoffs. The Tigers are expected to return 15 starters in 2020.
We are excited to announce the addition of Coach Coby Lewis to our staff for this upcoming season. Coach Lewis brings a wealth of knowledge and Head Coaching experience to our staff and we are lucky to have him. pic.twitter.com/FERI39qPzb
