A big weekend for a youth baseball team based in Paducah that features several of the area’s best high school players. The 16u Shivers Kentucky Prospects went 4-0 over the opening weekend of their summer baseball season in action at Clarksville Academy.
The Shivers opened play Friday with a 3-0 win over HaH Outlaws 16U Parker. Lyon County’s Gunnar Bingham had a big game at the plate, going 2-3, with a pair of singles and a walk. Bingham also scored a run. Fellow Lyon Jackson Shoulders was 1-3 with a run scored. Brody Williams finished 1-4 with a double and a run scored.
The Shivers came back later on Friday and picked up a 5-2 win over the Clarksville Orioles 16U. Lyon County’s Jackson Shoulders got the start in the game, going 3 2/3 innings, giving up one earned run on two hits, while striking out three. His teammate Luke Gilbert went 2 1/3 innings in relief of Shoulders, giving up no runs, on two hits, striking out four and walking two.
On Sunday, the Shivers began their day with a 9-2 win over G1 16u 16U. Hoptown’s Jacob Dilday went 4 1/3 innings in the start on the mound. Dilday gave up one earned run on two hits, while striking out five and walking just one.
At the plate, Jackson Shoulders was 1-2 with a double, a run scored, and 2 RBIs. Gunnar Bingham was 1-2 with a walk and a run scored. Luke Gilbert also was 1-2 on the afternoon, while Caldwell County’s Logan Smiley finished 1-1 with a run scored. Brody Williams finished the game 2-3 with an RBI.
In their final game Sunday, the Shivers pounded the Hit After Hit Outlaws – Galloway 16u 12-1. Gunnar Bingham was 1-3 at the plate with a run scored. Jackson Shoulders finished 1-2 with a double, 2 runs scored, and a walk. Logan Smiley was 0-1, but scored a run and drove in two more.
Luke Gilbert picked up the win, going three innings, giving up 1 run on 3 hits and striking out six. Gunnar Bingham went an inning on the mound, giving up no runs on no hits and striking out one.
