He is one of the all-time greats in the National Football League, and was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame. But did you know that his life began right here in the YourSportsEdge.Com coverage area.

Champ Bailey was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame last August after a stellar career with the Washington Redskins and the Denver Broncos. His life and path to football legend actually began back in 1978 at Fort Campbell.

Roland “Champ” Bailey Jr. was born June 22, 1978 on the military installation that straddles the Kentucky-Tennessee line.

Bailey did not get the opportunity to play at Fort Campbell as his family moved away from the area. He would end up playing high school football at Charlton County High School in Georgia. Bailey would go on to play college football at Georgia, where he became one of the most versatile players in all of college football.

His NFL career would begin in 1999 with the Washington Redskins. He moved to Denver in 2004 and then retired in 2013. He was selected for the Hall of Fame in February 2019 in his first year of eligibility, and then enshrined later that summer.

And to think, it all began right here in the region at Fort Campbell.
