The Louisville Lady Sluggers 18U, which features a trio of players from the 2nd Region, had a good start to their tournament action this weekend. The Lady Sluggers went 3-0-1 in the pool play portion Friday and Saturday of the ProSwings Power 50.
The Lady Sluggers began play Friday with a 12-0 win over the Fury Fastpitch. Christian County’s Reni Shemwell went 1-1, with a home run and two RBIs. Teammate Pickle Winkler scored a pair of runs in the contest. Lyon County’s Calista Collins finished the game 1-1.
The Lady Sluggers second game on Friday saw them take a 13-3 win over TN MoJo 16U. Reni Shemwell hit her second home run of the day, and went 2-2 with 4 RBIs. Calista Collins was 0-1, with a walk and a run scored. Pickle Winker had a walk and scored a run in the win.
Their final game of the day Friday saw the Lady Sluggers 18U come away with a 5-1 win over LLGDPS. Calista Collins ended up with 2 walks and a run scored. Reni Shemwell was 0-1, while Pickle Winkler would up the game 0-2.
Saturday, the Lady Sluggers and Tennessee MOJO 18U played to a 1-1 tie. Tennessee MOJO scored their run in the first inning, while the Lady Sluggers came back to tie the game in the bottom of the 4th. Shemwell finished the game 0-1, while Collins and Winkler were each 0-2.
The Lady Sluggers 18U began bracket play Sunday morning.
