Lyon County Post 68 Opens With 2 Wins Over Mayfield

post-68-4

The Lyon County Post 68 American Legion baseball team posted a pair of wins in its first action of the season on Monday.

The Post 68 Aces senior team swept a twinbill from Mayfield at Lee S. Jones Park in Eddyville, prevailing by 5-4 and 6-0 scores.

Tate VanHooser scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning of the first game after he was hit by a pitch with two outs.

A walk by Colin Price, a single by Tate Quertermous and an error in the outfield allowed VanHooser to break a 4-4 tie and give Post 68 the victory.

Erik O’Leary was the winning pitcher, tossing four innings in relief of starter Cody Holub.

O’Leary allowed just one unearned run on two base hits while striking out four and walking one.

Holub went the first three innings, giving up one earned run on three hits. He struck out five and walked four.

VanHooser was 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored.

In game two, a five-run sixth inning helped Post 68 pull away for the 6-0 triumph.

Cameron Clements pitched the first five innings for Lyon County, scattering four hits. He fanned five and walked four.

Aidan Rush threw two hitless innings of relief while striking out five and not issuing a free pass.

Ethan Ramage went 2-for-2 and scored a run for Post 68.

The Post 68 Aces senior team will next host the Chappel Allen Invitational this weekend in Eddyville.

Lyon County is the two-time defending Kentucky State American Legion champion.
