The Best of the West 7-on-7 Football Tournament scheduled for July 17-18 in Hopkinsville has been canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a post on social media, “We waited as long as possible to make the call but feel like this decision is in the best interests of our participants.” The tournament is expected to return in 2021.
Pearl-Cohn High of Tennessee won last year’s 32-team inaugural event with 36 teams expected to be at this year’s tournament.
KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett has said he didn’t think any 7-on-7 football this summer would be likely.
Football teams use 7-on-7 camps and games to help with conditioning and allow skill positions a chance to work on timing in their passing games.
