Hoptown Hoppers All-Decade Team – Allonte Wingate

2020 would have been the 10th season of the Ohio Valley League and the ninth season for the Hoptown Hoppers.  Both are expected to return strong in 2021 after COVID-19 caused the cancellation of the 2020 season.

YourSportsEdge.com has dug into the archives to present the Hoptown Hoppers All-Decade Team for 2012-19.

Allonte Wingate had one of the slickest infield gloves for the Hoppers with his defense and ability to get on base key for the 2016 Hopper squad.

Wingate batted .307 and provided solid up-the-middle defense for the Hoppers.  His 51 hits were the third most among the 2016 Hoppers and his 41 singles are second only to Ernie De La Trinidad’s 44 in a single season.

His ability to be a table-setter for the Hoppers showed as his 49 runs scored still ranks second in a season among Hopper players.  His 16 stolen bases remained a team record until 2019.

Wingate’s 203 plate appearances are tied with Cole Cummings [2018] for the most in Hoppers’ history.

After playing with the Hoppers in 2016, Wingate hit .350 for Cisco Junior College in 2017 and parlayed those numbers into a scholarship to Texas A&M where he hit .300 in 57 games with the Aggies in 2018.  He scored 23 runs with an on-base percentage of .414.

Wingate helped coach a high school team in Texas and is currently a sales support coordinator for a Fortune 500 insurance company.
