After receiving the recommendation from Commissioner Julian Tackett Friday morning during a work session, the Kentucky High School Athletic Association voted to extend the current guidelines for high school sports teams in the state. The vote means that official practices for fall sports teams will be delayed until at least August 3.

Currently, teams are allowed to do condition and some sport related activities, but mandatory, official practices are not allowed.

The one exception to the guidelines will be high school golf. The Board voted to allow high school golf to begin as it had been scheduled. That vote means mandatory practices can begin Monday, with competition slated to begin in the last week of July.

The Board of Control is expected to meet again on July 28th to consider the options going forward and to look at the fall sports calendar.

The decision to delay practices could mean a delay in the start of the 2020 seasons for football, soccer, volleyball, and possibly cross country. In the earlier work session, Commissioner Tackett indicated that the delays and adjustments in schedules could vary from sport to sport.
