Tyler Powell followed his first round of even-par with a 1-under 71 Sunday to win the Marshall Strong Classic, the Kentucky Junior PGA’s two-day event at the Calvert City Country Club.
The incoming Murray State freshman won by five shots over Rocco Zakutney, who will be a junior at St. Mary this fall. Powell had third birdies and three pars in Saturday’s first-round and three birdies and two bogeys on a sunny Sunday course.
Powell is a 2020 graduate of Marshall County, the namesake for the Junior PGA Tour stop, which makes Sunday’s win a personal one for him.
