Trigg County and University Heights took the winner and runner-up position in this year’s YourSportsEdge.Com/First Financial Bank Cross Country “Fan Faves.”
Trigg County’s Austin Cavanaugh was the top vote getter. Only a freshman, Cavanaugh led a strong boys’ team showing at the 2A region meet with a 2nd-place time of 17:37. He became the first Trigg County runner in over 30 years to finish in the top-10 at the state meet, running a 10th-place time of 17:03. His time was over a minute faster than the previous year, earning him KY Track and Cross Country Coaches’ Association All-State Team recognition. Cavanaugh was also named to the KTCCCA All-Area 1 Team and the Class 2A 1st Team.
Tomas Duncan, from UHA, finished as the runner-up. Duncan continued his dominance of the Region 1 1A cross country meet, turning in a 17:17 to earn his third-straight region title. He followed with a 4th-place finish at the Class A state meet, running a 16:41 and earning Class 1A KY Coaches’ Association All State and Class A Athlete of the Year. A junior, Duncan was also named to the KTCCCA All Area-1 Cross-Country Team and the All-Area 1st Team, which covers all three classes.
