Seath Butts (center) has been named Caldwell's new softball coach. He was introduced Friday by Caldwell athletic director Kim Farmer and assistant AD Waynee McGowan.

Caldwell County High School not only found its new softball coach — it found someone familiar with the Lady Tiger program.

Seath Butts takes over the CCHS softball team, becoming the eighth Lady Tiger head coach since fast-pitch softball began in 1995.

Butts takes over for David Choate, who stepped down after his daughter, Madi, graduated from CCHS this spring.

Butts, who was introduced as Caldwell’s new softball coach on Friday, is a 1997 Trigg County High School graduate. He played both baseball and football for the Wildcats.

Like Choate, Butts has a daughter in the program. Brylee will be an eighth grader this fall.

Butts, who has coached the middle school softball team at Caldwell, said he was interested in the high school head coaching job because he thinks the Lady Tigers can continue to produce college players and compete for regional championships.

The Lady Tigers have run off four-straight winning seasons and played in the 2nd Region title game in 2018 before falling to Christian County in extra innings.

Caldwell is nearing its 400th win in fast-pitch softball. The Lady Tigers are 390-339 since 1995.

Butts has another tie to Caldwell County sports. His wife, Nacy, is a daughter of former Tiger football head coach Pat Gates.
