An athletic program at Western Kentucky University is extending a scheduled break in their activity after a team member tested positive for COVID-19. According to a statement issued by WKU Athletics Monday afternoon, one student athlete from the women’s soccer program experienced symptoms and then tested positive for virus.

In the statement, officials noted that the soccer team had already scheduled a break from activity later this week, and that the break was being moved up to begin Monday in wake of the positive test.

Athletic department officials note that the positive COVID-19 test is the first among WKU athletes since they returned to campus in June.
