Marshall County claimed a pair of top-2 finishes against some of the top golf teams in the state over the weekend.
On Saturday at the Dunbar Classic at Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington, the Lady Marshals finished second, four shots behind the winner Lexington Christian Academy.
Savannah Howell went under par for the second time this week to finish in second place at 2-under par. Howell had seven birdies in her round. Christy Ann Carter of LCA shot a 3-under 70 to win the tournament.
Megan Hertter shot 1-under to finish in third place. She had two birdies and an eagle on the day.
Katie Roberts added a 3-over 76, and Elsie Riley shot an 80, including an eagle-2 on the par-4 17th hole.
Trinity Beth did not play in the tourney. However, she did play in Friday’s Shelby County Lady Rocket Invitational and won by one shot.
Beth shot a 3-under 69 to beat Sacred Heart’s Emily Warner by one shot at Weissinger Hills Golf Course in Shelbyville.
Elsie Riley had a huge day for Marshall County, shooting a 2-over 74 to finish tied for seventh place. Savannah Howell finished 23rd with a round of 81, and Katie Roberts shot an 82.
Marshall was without Megan Hertter who was playing in the Justin Thomas Junior Championships in Goshen where she finished in 23rd place.
The Lady Marshals edged Lexington Christian Academy by two shots to win the team title.
