
Marshall County got a preview of the state golf tournament course and made a statement Monday by winning the Greenwood Lady Gator Invitational at the Bowling Green Country Club.
The Lady Marshals shot a combined 306, which was three shots better than second-place and defending state champion Lexington Christian Academy. Sacred Heart Academy was third with 310 points, and last year’s state runner-up South Warren fourth with 312.
Savannah Howell led the Lady Marshals with a third-place finish at 1-under par. She was four shots behind the winner Faith Martin of South Warren.
Howell carded four birdies in her round and shot 1-under on the front nine.
Seventh-grader Trinity Beth finished tied for sixth place with a 1-over 73. She had a pair of birdies.
Megan Hertter shot a 2-over 74 to finish tied for ninth, and Elsie Riley came in with an 88 that tied her for 35th place. Sarah Umbarger was 44th with a score of 92.
The Bowling Green Country Club will play host to the state golf tournament on October 9-10.
