In what had been reported as likely to take place over the weekend, the Big Ten conference officially announced Tuesday afternoon that all fall sports seasons, including football have been postponed. In a report on ESPN.com, it was noted that Big Ten presidents and chancellors are hoping to play in the spring.
It was back on Sunday that the network initially reported that the Big Ten was ready to cancel the fall sports season.
With that domino falling Tuesday, the question is “what happens next?” ESPN reports that the expectation is the PAC-12 will follow suit and either cancel or postpone the fall sports season.
The SEC and the ACC previously have announced their plans to push forward, but it is still to be seen whether or not the Big Ten decision changes their view on a fall season.
Besides football, others sports impacted are men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, men’s and women’s soccer and women’s volleyball.
