Apparently, the search for a new associate head basketball coach at the University of Kentucky was a short one. Shortly after Tuesday morning’s announcement that UK associate head basketball coach Kenny Payne was headed to the NBA, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reported that Indiana assistant coach Bruiser Flint would be Payne’s replacement at UK.
Flint served as an assistant coach under Calipari when he was at UMass, and then took over the head coaching position when Calipari left to become the head coach of the New Jersey Nets. He spent five seasons in Amherst where he guided the Minutemen to two NCAA Tournaments and a NIT berth.
Prior to his time at Indiana, the Philadelphia native was the head coach at Drexel from 2001-2016. Four times he was named Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year (2002, 2004, 2009 and 2012) and NABC District Coach of the Year (1998, 2007, 2009 and 2012).
