Colonels Blanked at Franklin-Simpson in Season Opener

9-7-deason

Fielding a young squad in 2020, Christian County ran into the same offensive problems Monday that plagued them in 2019 with a 5-0 loss at Franklin-Simpson.

The Colonels averaged just over a goal a game last year and lost its leading scorer to graduation.  However, the inexperience on the defensive side Monday led to two first-half goals for the Wildcats.  The Colonels also had to play some of the game without starting goalie Josh Settle who was injured.

“We played hard, but we are really inexperienced,” Colonel Coach Austin Byrum said. “We didn’t win many 50-50 balls, and we have to learn to move as a defensive unit.”

Christian County will play Hopkinsville Saturday at the Stadium of Champions in a district contest that will count toward seeding for the postseason tournament.
