After word leaked that the Las Vegas Raiders were trading former University of Kentucky star Lynn Bowden — a third-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft — and a sixth-round pick to Miami for a fourth-round pick in the 2021 draft the reasons for the move started trickling out.
I read or heard all these reasons:
— Bowden didn’t pick up pass blocking schemes well enough at running back.
— Bowden was not spending enough time studying the playbook.
— Bowden was not the versatile player that coach Jon Gruden thought he would be.
Bowden waited a bit to respond before posting this on Twitter: “Don’t believe everything you read lol I stepped outside of my home twice if that on to a new journey let’s rock.”
Guessing that the Las Vegas Raiders might not be calling Kentucky recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow any time soon for player evaluations. Marrow obviously read and saw what was being “unofficially” thrown out as why the Raiders dumped Bowden and did not like it.
Remember Marrow took a chance on Bowden out of high school in Ohio when he had some academic questions and others also wondered about his character. Marrow believed in him and it paid off for Kentucky.
Here’s the response Marrow had on Twitter that didn’t lave a lot to your imagination:
“@LynnBowden_1 is one of the best football players I’ve been around he’s not a running back he’s a Wr (wide receiver) who can make plays. He’s also a very intelligent football player so just remember this is the same team who passed on @JoshAllen41_ enough said. Go Big Blue.”
Shots fired for moving Bowden from his collegiate position at receiver to running back and also for passing on former Cat Josh Allen in the draft two years ago.
