It was a pretty good start to the delayed 2020 soccer season for the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers Tuesday evening. The Lady Tigers scored four goals in each half and controlled the match throughout as they cruised to an 8-0 win over Muhlenberg County at the Stadium of Champions.
The Lady Tigers got on the board just 8 minutes into the new season when Abby Moss passed to the middle and found Makayla Marshall, who found the net to give Hopkinsville a 1-0 lead. The pair hooked up again just seven minutes later when Moss took the ball down the middle, passed to Marshall on the left, and Marshall added her second goal of the night to make it 2-0.
Hopkinsville added to the lead at the 20:00 mark when Grasen Givens drilled a shot from about 25 feet out on the right hand side to make it 3-0. Givens added another goal 8 minutes later to give Hopkinsville a 4-0 lead, which would be the halftime margin.
While the offense was clicking on its end, the Hopkinsville defense had the door shut on the other end. Unofficially, the Lady Tigers held the Lady Mustangs to just two shots on goal in the opening half, and not much changed in the second half in that regard.
Abby Moss, who had two assists in the first half, picked up the hat trick in the second half. Moss scored goals at the 45:30, 50:24, and 68:30 marks to blow the lead on out to 7-0. Haley Cowherd would add a late goal to round out the scoring for Hopkinsville.
Hopkinsville returns to action Thursday when they host Caldwell County.
