It had been over three years since the Lyon County boys’ soccer team enjoyed a scoring outburst like Tuesday night’s victory over Butler County, with the Lyons winning 7-2 on the road to start the 2020 campaign. The Lyons had not scored 7 goals in a game since an 8-1 victory over Ballard Memorial all the way back in 2017.
Senior Todd Huddleston found the back of the net 3 times, as did strike partner sophomore Timothy Stewart. Freshman Drake Jackson got in on the act as well with a goal in his first varsity match.
The Lyons edged Butler County 6-5 last season at a tournament at Russellville, while the Bears only win came late in the season against Todd County Central. A big step up in competition awaits on Friday when the Lyons make their way to Hopkinsville to meet UHA in the championship of the 2nd Region All-A Classic. The Blazers topped the Lyons 6-1 last season to claim the All-A region title.
