Everything is Peachy for the Wildcats in Debut Win

9-11-renfro

Trigg County scored touchdowns on its first four possessions and put up a first-quarter running clock on the way to a 56-0 win over Ballard Memorial Friday at Perdue Field. The win gave Mark Peach a win in his Wildcat coaching debut.

Senior Jaquellus Martin, playing offense for the first time, scored on touchdown runs of 27 and 29 yards on his first two touches to put the Wildcats ahead 14-0.

Sophomore Jacob Wease hit freshman Jhaden Vaughn for a 40-yard scoring strike to give the Wildcats their third score in the first five minutes of the game.

Wease hit Dillion Skinner on a 33-yard pass for his second TD of the game.  Wease finished 6-of-8 passing for 122 yards.

Martin added a third rushing touchdown with 1:40 left.  Beau Hendricks scored the 2-point conversion to start the mercy rule running clock.

Wease and Martin connected again just before halftime on a 15-yard scoring pass.  Martin finished with 90 rushing yards on eight carries and caught two passes for 23 yards.  He accounted for four touchdowns.

Skinner added his second touchdown receiving on a 7-yard pass from Hendricks in the third quarter.

Trigg rounded out the scoring when freshman Jerymiah Shearer scored on a 6-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Keller Nichols was 6-of-6 on extra-point kicks in his football debut.  Nichols starts for the Wildcat soccer team.

The Wildcats rolled up 310 yards and 17 first downs in the contest.  They also did not have a penalty that resulted in lost yardage.  Two flags were offsetting.

Trigg’s defense limited Ballard Memorial to one yard in the first half and three through three quarters.  The Bombers finished with 68 yards and one first down.

The 56 points are the most scored by Trigg County in a season opener since a 56-12 win over Madisonville in 2005.  The 56-point margin is the most ever for Trigg in an opener.

Trigg County will play at Murray next Friday, a place they haven’t won at since 2008.
