After playing to a tie earlier in the week, the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons picked up their first win of the 2020 soccer season Thursday evening. The Maroons went on the road, scoring early and often on their way to a 9-2 win over the Russellville Panthers.
Logan Rainwater led the attack for Madisonville. Rainwater finished the night with a hat trick, scoring a goal in the first half and two more in the second half.
For the second match in a row, the Maroons got on the board early in the contest, as just two minutes into the match, Tate Young scored off an assist from Kael Knight to give Madisonville a 1-0 lead. A second early goal from Young put the Maroons up 2-0.
Rainwater’s first goal of the night extended the lead to 3-0. Nojah Jimenez scored off an assist from Maverick Peyton to push the lead out to 4-0. Sam Dodds would then score off a pass from Dalton Daves to make it 5-0.
After Russellville scored to trim the lead to 5-1, Dalton Daves scored two late first half goals, one on a penalty kick, to extend the lead to 7-1 at the half.
The match stayed that way until the Panthers scored on a penalty kick with about 14 minutes to go to make it 7-2. Logan Rainwater then added to late goals to reach the final 9-2 margin.
The Maroons were effective with their passing game, as seven of their nine goals came off an assist.
Madisonville improves to 1-0-1 on the season, and will return to action Saturday evening at Hopkins Central.
