Senior Katelyn Cavanaugh and sophomore Priya Holmes are proving to be quite the one-two punch for the Hopkins County Central offense.
Cavanaugh scored six goals and Holmes had four Saturday night as the Lady Storm captured a 10-2 victory at Lyon County.
Each player has scored eight times this season for Hopkins Central, which is off to a 2-0 start.
The Lady Storm got an early jump on the Lady Lyons, grabbing a 3-0 lead midway through the first half.
Holmes scored on a 1-on-1 move in the 11th minute, then Cavanaugh buried a shot from about 25 yards out in the minute.
Cavanaugh connected on another long shot in the 22nd minute off an assist from Keri Reynolds.
But Lyon (0-2) put up a pair of quick tallies to make a game of it, at least for a while.
Rose Smith scored unassisted from the corner of the box on the right side in the 24th minute.
Leah Schroeder then hammered home a penalty kick in the 30th minute as Lyon quickly pulled within 3-2.
But the Lady Storm went back to work at the other end.
Holmes beat the Lyon defense to the ball and scored in the 33rd minute.
Holmes struck again in the 38th minute, taking a pass ahead from Rebekah Reasor and scoring to put Hopkins Central up 5-2 at the intermission.
Holmes netted her fourth goal in the 47th minute. Reasor again got an assist after finding Holmes open in front of the net.
Cavanaugh then took over the heavy lifting for the Lady Storm offense the rest of the second half.
She scored in the 48th minute off a free kick from around 25 yards out. That made it 7-2.
Cavanaugh found the net from the right side in the 70th minute to extend the margin to 8-2.
Cavanaugh got help from Lillie Melton in the 76th minute for her fifth goal.
Cavanaugh converted another free kick in the 79th minute to make the final score 10-2.
Cavanaugh scored her six goals on 12 shots.
Holmes netted her four tallies on six shots.
Hopkins Central outshot Lyon 18-14.
Kire Peyton recorded 12 saves in the Lady Storm net.
For Lyon, Jordyn Schofield had four saves and Maddie Russell had two.
