Fort Campbell has been given the green light by DoDEA to resume volleyball competition for the fall 2020 season.
The school announced Saturday that conditioning, training, and competition for volleyball can begin. Fort Campbell Volleyball Coach Kasey Yungandreas said the school will hold tryouts this week and hope to get some games scheduled in the next two weeks. The Lady Falcons were expected to return three seniors to this year’s squad.
Fort Campbell was slated to host the region volleyball tournament in October but the region’s athletic directors voted to move the semifinals and championship to Christian County High. First-round games will be hosted by the district champions.
DoDEA announced Aug. 11 that high school sports at military installations at Health Protection Condition level Bravo, such as Fort Campbell, would not be allowed to play high school sports with a high or moderate infection risk such as football, soccer, and volleyball due to COVID-19 concerns. The decision effectively canceled those sports seasons at Fort Campbell and Fort Knox. Golf and cross country were not affected.
Senior Commander Major General Brian Winski said last month that Fort Campbell was continuing to assess the situation and make recommendations to DoDEA.
Fort Campbell will likely not schedule any games against Tennessee schools and will play most of their games on the road due to visitation restrictions at the Army post.
DoDEA said soccer and football can begin conditioning and individual drills but will not play any games.
