Down one set to Webster County on Senior Night, Hopkinsville looked to grab the momentum and tie the match. However, the Lady Trojans had other ideas as they outscored the Lady Tigers 9-1 to win the set on and go on for the straight set win Monday.

Hopkinsville fell behind 4-0 in each of the first two sets to Webster.  Hoptown battled back to tie the set at 7-7 and took a 14-10 lead before the Lady Trojans forged ties at 15, 18, 22, and 23.  Webster scored the final two points of the set to claim the opener 25-23.

Webster jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the second set before Lady Tiger Alyssa Bearns went on a personal run to tie the game at 9.  The senior had two kills, two aces, and an assist in during the 5-0 run.

Tied at 14, Hoptown used a 9-2 run to grab a 23-16 lead and appeared on its way to knotting the match at one set apiece.

Webster scored five straight before a side out gave Hoptown set point at 24-21.  A service error led to five straight Lady Trojan points and a 26-24 win.

The second set loss robbed the spirit from the Lady Tigers, who dropped the deciding set 25-9 after falling behind 10-1 out of the gate.

Bearns had 11 kills and three aces for the Lady Tigers.  Lupita Vieyra added three aces and a kill, and Lori Moyd and Hailey Hallmark each had a pair of kills.  Lauren Watkins had eight assists and an ace.

Maggie Jones led Webster County with nine kills. Karis Sallee had six of Webster’s 18 aces in the match.  The Lady Trojans improved to 2-1 with the win.

Hopkinsville, now 0-3, will travel to Crittenden County Tuesday.
