After a pair of wins and a draw to start the season, the Madisonville-North Hopkins boys’ soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Tuesday night, but it took the state runners-up from a year ago to give it to them. The Maroons went on the road to Daviess County, falling behind early on the way to a 5-1 loss to the Panthers.
Daviess County got on the board inside the first five minutes with a converted penalty kick, but the Maroons answered with a Logan Rainwater header off a cross from Dalton Daves.
The Panthers took the lead for good with two goals in the last five minutes of the half and led 3-1 at the break. They added a fourth just after halftime and eased to the 4-goal victory.
Madisonville opens 7th-District play on Thursday with a trip to Princeton to face Caldwell County. The Tigers moved to 1-0 in district play with a 2-1 win over Hopkins County Central on Tuesday.
