Bowling Green has proved to be a good host of the Leachman Buick GMC/KHSAA State Golf Tournament in recent years.  However, a high number of COVID-19 cases in Warren County has the KHSAA monitoring case data ahead of the state tourney that begins Oct. 6 at the Bowling Green Country Club.

At Wednesday’s KHSAA Board of Control meeting, Commissioner Julian Tackett said Warren County’s COVID-19 incidence rate of 32.6 people per 100,000 people is considered critical by the state.  According to the state’s COVID-19 website, only four counties have a higher rate.

The latest White House Coronavirus Task Force shows both Bowling Green and Warren County in the “red zone”, which means during the last week they reported both new cases above 100 per 100,000 population, and a lab test positivity result above 10-percent.

Tackett said he is continuing to monitor the situation and will be considering alternative locations in the area.

The field for the state tournament will remain at 144 golfers with the region champion and the next seven low scores advancing to the state tourney.

The Leachman Buick GMC/KHSAA Boys’ State Golf Tournament will be held Oct. 6-7 with the girls’ tourney scheduled for Oct. 9-10.
