Last year, Todd County Central went on the road for a game that never took place. Friday night, the Rebels played just seconds longer than the opening quarter, before their opponent decided to stop the game. Todd County Central was leading 45-14 when Caverna said they wanted the night to end.

The Colonels were dealing with a combination of low numbers on the roster and recent injuries headed into the game. An ejection early in the second quarter turned out to be the straw that broke the camel’s back for the night.

The fireworks began early in the contest. Todd County Central drove the ball right down the field. Preston Moore capped off the drive with a one yard touchdown run to put the Rebels up 7-0 with 8:31 to go in the opening quarter.

The Colonels did not take long to respond. Cameron Buchanon tossed a 10 yard touchdown pass to Gil Harper with 6:39 to go in the first quarter. With the two point conversion, Caverna took an 8-7 lead.

Less than a minute later, Preston Moore threw a 27 yard touchdown pass to Gavyn Nolan to put the Rebels back in front. After a two point conversion, Todd County Central held a 15-8 lead.

Moments later, Cameron Buchanon ripped off a 68 yard touchdown run with 5:44 to go in the opening quarter. The Rebels picked off a pass on the two point conversion to hold on to a 15-14 lead.

On the ensuing kickoff, Omarion Riddick ran all the way back to the house for a 70 yard touchdown. The two point attempt was no good, and the Rebels led 21-14.

The next Todd County Central possession, Preston Moore galloped for a 26 yard touchdown run. This time the two point conversion was good and the Rebel lead was 29-14 with 3:41 still to go in the opening quarter.

Caverna fumbled the ball away deep in their own end of the field on the very next possession. The Rebels took the ball at the 18 and moved right to the end zone. Preston Moore ran it in from five yards out with 2:33 to go in the quarter, and, after the two point conversion, Todd County Central’s lead grew to 37-14.

Todd Central’s defense shut down the Colonels on the next possession. On the punt, Omarion Riddick ran it all the way back. Another two point conversion made it 45-14 Todd Central with 1:10 to go in the first.

From that point the game lasted one more play. After the opening play of the 2nd quarter, Caverna stopped the game with the Rebels holding the 31 point lead.

The Rebels move to 2-0 on the season, but things figure to get a bit tougher next week, as Todd Central travels to Steele Stadium for a district showdown with Owensboro Catholic.
