Former Kentucky defensive star Josh Allen certainly has found a home with the Jacksonville Jaguars and could grow into a NFL star. He’s already been named a team captain in just his second season with the franchise.
“His popularity is through the roof here,” said Kentucky native John Showalter, who works at the CBS-TV affiliate in Jacksonville. “He is going to be the face of the defense, and maybe the franchise.
“Fans already love him and I just don’t see that changing any time soon.”
Showalter is not involved with sports on the CBS station but knows the sports personnel like Allen a lot.
“Our sports director said he was a phenomenal guy,” Showalter said. “He’s going to be a guy a lot of people hitch their wagon to in Jacksonville.”
Showalter said recently he attended a charity event at a Jacksonville high school. One of the items in the charity auction was a Josh Allen jersey.
“Another Kentucky fan was there and bid it up on me,” Showalter laughed and said. “We have a strong UK alumni/fan group here. Trust me, we all love Josh Allen but so do the Jacksonville fans.”
