After sitting out the beginning of the 2020 high school volleyball season due to COVID restrictions, the Fort Campbell Lady Falcons flashed a load of potential in a semifinal run at the 2nd Region All “A” tournament on Saturday. They opened their season Saturday with a three-set thriller over hosts Livingston Central, before pushing eventual region runners-up Crittenden County to the brink in a 2-1 loss.
The masked-up Lady Falcons led 12-6 to start the first set with the Lady Cardinals and stretched the lead to ten before winning 25-17. However, Livingston turned the tables in the second, scoring the first seven points to take the early advantage. Fort Campbell tied things up at 13-13, and the teams battled back-and-forth until Livingston scored the last three points to hold on 25-22.
Fort Campbell was out of the gate quickly in the decisive third set, leading 9-3 to force a Livingston timeout. Four points would be as close as the Lady Cardinals got after that, and the Lady Falcons moved on to the semifinals with a 25-16 win.
If Crittenden was looking ahead to a possible title matchup with Caldwell County, Fort Campbell got their attention quickly in the first set. The Lady Rockets got out to a 4-1 lead, but the set was tied five times up until the teams were knotted at 17-17. The Lady Falcons led by four at 24-20, but Crittenden scored the last six points to steal the win.
It was Fort Campbell that gained traction early in the second, but Crittenden County was even at 15-15 after a kill by Katie Perryman. The biggest lead was three the rest of the way at 22-19 for the Lady Falcons, but after another tie at 24-24, the Lady Rockets scored the final two points to even the match at a set apiece.
The third set was back-and-forth, with five ties and neither team leading by more than a point up to a 17-17 stalemate. Crittenden moved in front by two after a Cameron Howard ace, and the Lady Rockets never trailed again on the way to a 25-19 victory.
