Auburn quarterback Bo Nix was the SEC Freshman of the Year in 2019, when he completed 213 of 377 passes for 2,542 years and 16 touchdowns, and ran for 313 yards and six scores. That was the kind of production many expected from him after he set Alabama state high school records with more than 12,000 career total yards of offense and 161 career touchdowns (127 pass, 34 rush) for Pinson Valley High School.
He led his team to 6A state titles in 2017 and 2018.
Kentucky has one player — junior receiver Allen Dailey — who knows plenty about Nix going into Saturday’s game at Auburn. He caught 80 passes for 1,441 yards — a top-10 single season performance in Alabama prep history — and 23 touchdowns — second most in Alabama history — for unbeaten Pinson Valley with Nix at quarterback.
“We are still very close,” Dailey said about his relationship with Nix. “We still talk from time to time.”
They likely will not be talking his week with Southeastern Conference play starting.
“I am just ready to go and get out and have fun with my team,” Dailey said.
What is it like back home when it comes to Auburn football talk?
“Where I am from we don’t talk about it much. I am all Kentucky now. I am all BBN now,” he said. “He (Nix) was very good in high school. I really have not been looking at him now.”
“I am ready to be physical and help my team win no matter where they put me at. I’m just ready to play.”
