The Todd County Central Lady Rebels almost made it to the sectional round of the 2020 All A Classic volleyball tournament. The Lady Rebels fell just short of that goal, falling to Clinton County in a tough two set match in the 4th Region title game Saturday on the Lady Bulldogs home court. The loss marked the second straight year the Lady Rebels have lost to the Lady Bulldogs in the regional title match.
In their opening match of the day Saturday in the regional tournament, the Lady Rebels cruised to an easy straight set win over the Russellville Lady Panthers. Todd Central controlled the opening set all the way through as they won 25-9 to go up 1-0 in the match.
The second set turned out to be more of the same. The Lady Rebels took the second 25-10, and closed out the match two sets to none to advance on to battle the Glasgow Lady Scotties in the regional semifinals.
In the semis, Glasgow put up a fight in the opening set, but eventually the Lady Rebels took control to pick up the win. The opening set saw Todd Central eek out a 25-23 win to take a 1-0 lead in the match. After the tight opening set, the second set was a bit anticlimatic. Todd Central rolled to a 25-7 win over the Lady Scotties to close out the match at two sets to none.
The win in the semifinals then moved the Lady Rebels into the 4th Region All A championship game against Clinton County. The Lady Bulldogs won the All A regional title in 2019, and advanced to the championship bracket at the All A state tournament.
The first set was hard fought and went down to the wire. Clinton County was able to take the set 25-22 and go up 1-0 in the match. The Lady Bulldogs then had themselves a bit more breathing room in the second set, as they closed out the match and the regional title with a 25-17 win.
Three Lady Rebels were named to the All Tournament team, those being Lucy Chester, Lanie Bivins, and Meredith Drummond.
Todd Central is now 6-3 on the season and will get back to action Tuesday when they host Henderson County.
