After going a little bit over a year without playing in a football game because of a knee injury, Kentucky quarterback Terry Wilson admitted it “felt great” to be playing again. However, he also readily admitted he was “tough to win a game with turnovers” and he had two miscues in Saturday’s 29-13 loss at Auburn to open the season.

“Myself, I got to do a better job holing on to the ball when I am running,” said Wilson. “I have not been hit in a year, but that’s no excuse. Just got to hold on to the ball.”

Wilson was good at times but also knew he made just enough mistakes, especially the interception at the goal line before halftime, that really hurt UK. But also give him credit for not making any excuses.

Two plays before he threw the key interception it appeared teammate Chris Rodriguez got into the end zone only to be marked down at the 1 even though replays seemed to clearly show he scored.

“We definitely thought he was in. I thought it was a touchdown after they (officials) watched again,” Wilson said. “We just have to move forward. Not dwell on it and move on.”
After Rodriguez was ruled down at the 1, Wilson tried to run for the touchdown on a sneak. He was stopped.

“I just didn’t get in,” he said.

The next play he rolled right and threw the ball that got picked and returned 100 yards for a score that was wiped out by a penalty after a replay review.

“I didn’t have as much time as I needed but I thought I had Chris open and then (No.) 23 came off his guy and intercepted the pass,” Wilson said.
