As had been figured to be a possibility since Calloway County’s announcement Monday morning, the Hopkinsville Tiger football team has been shutdown for a 14 day quarantine period. That decision comes in the wake of an announcement Monday morning by Calloway County High School that their program was being shuttered for 14 days after a Laker football player tested positive for COVID-19 Saturday morning.
Hopkinsville and Calloway County played Friday night, with the Lakers coming away with a 14-7 upset win.
In the official statement from the Christian County Public Schools, issued just before 2:00pm, district officials stated “due to a positive Covid-19 test of a Calloway County High School football player, Hopkinsville High School has quarantined approximately 30 football players who played in a football game at Calloway County, Friday night, September 25th.”
“The Calloway County player tested positive Saturday, September 26th. Based on discussions with the Christian County Health Department, Hopkinsville players who came in contact with the Calloway County player, will be quarantined through October 9th.”
“Parents of affected players have been notified. Football games scheduled for Friday, October 2nd (Logan County) and Friday, October 9th (Madisonville-North Hopkins) are either cancelled or postponed.”
The two games affected are district games for the Hopkinsville Tigers.
