The loss of a Fort Campbell girls’ soccer program due to COVID-19 concerns has been a gain for the school’s cross country program.
Boosted by the addition of four players from the soccer team, the Lady Falcons finished third Saturday at the 42nd Annual Marshall County Invitational.
Junior Emma Cogbill was the top Lady Falcon runner with a 13th place finish. She ran a time of 11:16 over the 1.5-mile course.
The race was shortened from the normal 3.1-mile length due to COVID-19 recommendations from the KHSAA earlier this year that also saw the runners compete in waves throughout the morning to cut down on crowding the field.
Three other soccer players – Abigail Estes [42nd, 13:20]; Ella Plumb [55th, 14:09]; and Lindsay Molinelli [73rd, 15:58] – helped contribute to the Fort Campbell finish.
Alexandra Stearns captured a top-20 finish, coming in 19th in 11:59. Sophie Lacy was 27th in 12:37, and Caroline Hazard was 35th in 13:03.
Fort Campbell’s team score of 76 was third only to Graves County [39] and Marshall County [41].
