There was not much the UHA Lady Blazers did not do right on Senior Night 2020. In addition to celebrating the senior members of the team, the Lady Blazers almost completely locked down the Mayfield Lady Cardinals, as they rolled to 10-0 win Tuesday evening.
UHA played virtually the whole match in the offensive end of the field and limited the Lady Cardinals to just one shot in the match. That shot came not long before the Lady Blazers ended the match due to the 10 goal mercy rule.
Sarah Covington and Grace Pape combined to score three goals in the first 7:10 as UHA bolted out to a 3-0 lead.
UHA’s offense kept rolling over the remainder of the half, as Kate Cansler scored twice, Grace Pape scored a second goal, and Emily Hancock scored to give the Lady Blazers a 7-0 lead at the half.
The Lady Blazers were just as good defensively as they held Mayfield without a shot for the opening 40 minutes.
Molly Bennett got things going in the second half, scoring at the 41:20 mark. Addi Fourqurean scored at the 63:00 mark. Grace Pape then closed out the match with her third goal of the night at 64:40 to make it 10-0.
For the match, UHA limited Mayfield to just one shot on goal, while getting off 37 shots of their own. The Lady Blazers’ attack of Pape, Cansler, Covington, and Emma Perry up front was beyond difficult for the Lady Cardinals to deal with, while the Lady Blazer defense rarely allowed Mayfield to cross the midfield line.
With her three goals on the night, UHA’s Grace Pape reaches 52 goals for her career at University Heights.
The win improves UHA to 4-2 on the season. The Lady Blazers return to action Wednesday night when they host Christian County.
