Crittenden County scored six touchdowns of 40 yards or more to hand Trigg County a 56-34 loss Friday at Perdue Field.
Rocket running back Xander Tabor scored five times for the Rockets on runs of 9, 16, 74, and 46 yards and caught a short pass that resulted in a 57-yard score for Crittenden’s first points of the game.
Tabor ran for 144 yards on 10 carries with the TD catch his only reception of the game. In all, the Rockets rolled up 420 yards of offense on just 31 plays.
Trigg County struck first when Kendric Adams caught a short pass across the middle and turned it into a 60-yard touchdown.
Crittenden answered with Tabor’s 57-yard scoring strike to knot the game at 7.
Trigg took the lead with 6:11 left in the opening quarter when Jaquellus Martin picked up a botched snap exchange and returned it 10 yards for the score. It was Trigg’s last points of the first half.
Trigg had another shot to score but Jacob Wease was intercepted in the end zone. Crittenden answered with the final 35 points of the half.
In addition to Tabor’s scoring heroics, Preston Morgeson took a short pass 82 yards to the house, and tight end Preston Turley did the same for 73 yards.
Crittenden scored twice inside the first minute of the second half to get the running clock going. Tabor added his last score on a 46-yard run, and Caden McAllister picked off a Wease pass on the next drive and returned it 49 yards for a touchdown and a 56-14 lead.
Trigg scored three times in the second half with two of the scores coming against the Rocket reserves. Martin scored on runs of 54 and 34 yards, and Adams took one in from six yards out.
Martin had 120 yards on 11 carries for the Wildcats, while Adams added 60 yards on 13 carries. Wease was 13-of-32 passing for 179 yards and a touchdown. He threw two interceptions in a game for the first time this season.
Luke Crider was 6-of-11 passing for 276 yards and three touchdowns.
The 56 points scored by the Rockets are the most in the 42-game series history. The Rockets have beaten Trigg three straight times for the first time 1991-93. Trigg still leads the all-time series 29-12-1.
Crittenden County improves to 3-1 after a season-opening loss to Caldwell County. They make the trip to the land of concrete wigwams next week when they play at Caverna.
Trigg County is 1-3 with the three losses coming to ranked teams. The Wildcats will host Marshall County next Friday. The Marshals beat Ballard Memorial 54-0 Thursday.
