
Calloway County used a pair of scoring spurts in each half to hand Christian County an 8-3 setback Monday at the Stadium of Champions.
The Lady Lakers scored three times in a six-minute span of the first half and put the game away with four goals in an 11-minute frame midway through the second half.
Calloway outshot Christian County 12-4 in the first half and 29-7 for the game.
Elle Carson, who came into the contest averaging two goals per game, scored three of her goals in the first half for the Lady Lakers. Her first came off an assist from Addi Schumacher 12 minutes into the contest. Carson added her second on the breakaway in the 25th minute that was the first of three goals in the next six minutes.
Schumacher scored her seventh goal of the season in the 27th minute. Carson completed her first half hat trick in the 31st minute.
Christian County got on the board when Alaya Lander scored on a breakaway in the 35th minute. The goal was the fourth of the season for the Lady Colonel freshman.
Lexie Hendrix cut the Calloway lead to 4-2 in the 54th minute when she got free behind the Calloway defense to score her fifth goal of 2020.
Calloway put the game away with four goals in the next 12 minutes. Rylee McCallon scored twice, and Carson and Bailey Provine each added one goal.
Christian County scored the game’s final goal when a handball in the box gave Lillie Larkins a penalty kick that she converted.
Freshman Alaina Grace made 12 saves in the contest, including eight in the second half for the Lady Colonels.
Calloway County improved to 6-2-2 with their eighth straight win over Christian County dating back to the Lady Colonels’ last win in the series in 2001.
Christian County [2-7-1] has concluded its regular season and will play either University Heights or Hopkinsville in the district tourney semifinals next Tuesday.
