For the host Todd County Central boys’ soccer team, one goal was enough on Monday night against visiting Christian County, as the Rebel defense shut out the Colonels for a 1-0 victory. The Rebels hold an opponent scoreless for the third time this season and snap a three-game losing skid, while the Colonels fail to get on the scoresheet for the sixth time this campaign.
Neither team could find the breakthrough during a back-and-forth first half and it was a scoreless tie at the break. The Rebels began to exert more pressure in the second half and took the lead with twenty minutes to play. Fernando Herrera provided the game-winner with a free-kick from the edge of the 18-yard box that found the far-side netting. Jonah Rager preserved the shutout with a pair of saves in goal for the Rebels.
Christian County will be back on the road on Tuesday with a trip to Cadiz to face Trigg County. Todd Central ends its regular-season slate on Thursday with an away matchup at Lyon County.
