Trigg County senior Will Jolly scored three goals for the second time in three outings, and the Trigg County defense pitched a second-half shutout to give the Wildcats a 3-1 victory over the visiting Christian County Colonels on Tuesday night. Jolly has scored all ten of the Wildcats goals over the last four matches, three wins and a draw, and now has fifteen for the season.
Jolly gave the Wildcats the lead just inside of the first ten minutes when he drew a foul in the 18-yard box and converted the penalty kick. However, with 14:30 left to play in the half, the Colonels answered with a Jaiden Northington goal off an assist from Ben Bennett, and the game was knotted 1-1 at the break.
The match looked to be heading for a draw until Trigg’s Ben Futrell was fouled just inside the corner of the 18-yard box to give the Wildcats another penalty kick. Jolly was on target again, and the score was 2-1 with less than five minutes to play. Jolly added an insurance goal with only seconds left on the clock, scoring unassisted from close range.
Jolly’s three goals tie him on the Wildcats’ career list with his step-brother, Zeb DeHart. DeHart scored 76 goals from 2013-16, finishing third all-time, while his 63 assists are second in program history.
Trigg goalkeeper Joseph Crawford made four saves, as did the Colonels’ Josh Settle.
The Wildcats return to their home field on Thursday when they welcome Hopkins County Central to the Recreation Complex. Christian County will also face opposition from Hopkins County, going on the road to face Madisonville-North Hopkins on Friday.
