A former Marshall County star softball player has returned to the program. Officials at Marshall County High School announced Wednesday morning on social media that Abby Fiessinger was returning to her alma mater as a member of the Lady Marshals’ coaching staff.
Fiessinger was a varsity starter for the Lady Marshals softball team starting in 7th grade, receiving multiple awards including 2015 Region 1 Player of the Year, 2014 and 2015 All-Region Teams, 2013, 2014 and 2015 Defense and Offense Awards and a member of the Junior West All-Star Team.
Fiessinger set several Marshall County High School records including highest season batting average, highest on-base percentage, most hits in a season, most doubles in a season, most RBI in a season with a current career batting average of .479.
After her high school career, Fiessinger played collegiately at Carson-Newman, where she was a two-time first team Academic All-American. Fiessinger was named the program’s sixth honoree for league Softball Scholar Athlete of the Year. The Benton native wrapped up her mathematics degree with a 3.85 GPA.
She closed out her career ranked in the top-five in several Carson-Newman statistical categories including, being second in total bases with 381, second in intentional walks with four, fourth in home runs with 29, fourth in sacrifice flies with five, fifth in on-base percentage at .473, fifth in hits with 225, and fifth in hit by pitch having been hit 28 times.
