Macey Brown put together 37 consistent holes of golf and won the KHSAA Girls’ State Golf Championship on the first playoff hole Saturday at the Bowling Green Country Club.
The Apollo junior birdied the 17th hole to pull to within one shot of Madison Central’s Elizabeth Eberle heading to the 18th tee box. Eberle hit the trees on two fairway shots and turned in a double bogey. Brown knocked down a bogey putt to force the tie.
On the first playoff hole, Brown made par and became the first Owensboro golfer since Janice Johnson in 1969 to win a girls’ state title. A week earlier, Brown won the Region 2 title at the Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club.
