After losing the 2019 8th District boys’ soccer championship game in heartbreaking fashion in overtime, the University Heights Academy Blazers came out Thursday night and made sure that would not be the case again in 2020. The Blazers scored three times in the first ten minutes of the match and never looked back on their way to a 10-0 win over the Christian County Colonels.

The Blazers dominated the possession and flow of the match. UHA outshot Christian County 26-1 for the match.

The Christian County Colonels may have gotten the feeling it was going to be one of “those kind of nights” in the opening moments of the contest. The first UHA goal was an own goal at the Christian County end of the field that put the Blazers up 1-0 just 3:30 into the match. Add in the fact that the Colonels were missing their starting goalie, and it shaped up to be a tough night.

At the 8:00 mark, Ethan Hale scored coming down the left side to extend the lead to 2-0. Just one minute later William Bryan beat the goalie and then passed to Preston Thomas for a 3-0 lead.

William Bryan scored what even he said might have been his “best shot of the season” at the 19:00 mark. Bryan passed the ball from his right foot to his left foot and then drilled the shot into the net to make it 4-0. That goal also tied Bryan with Jordan Grace for all time leading scorer at UHA with 100 goals. The tie would be short lived.

Three minutes later, Connor Dill found Bryan right in front of the net with a pass, that Bryan promptly put in the net to make it a 5-0 lead and to put himself alone at the top of the UHA scoring list. Bryan would score once more in the opening half, and would assist on one of Connor Dill’s two first half goals, as the lead increased to 8-0 at the break.

Dill would complete his hat trick on a rocket shot in the first 1:30 of the second half to make it 9-0. Elvin Wagner then ended the match when he scored at the 51:30 mark to close the night out at 10-0.

The Blazers improve to 8-2 on the season with the win. Christian County falls to 1-10-1. Both teams will move on to next week’s 2nd Region boys’ soccer tournament at Madisonville-North Hopkins.
