
The Lady Maroons arrived late but scored early.
Madisonville-North Hopkins had a bus issue that resulted in the team getting a late start to Mortons Gap for Thursday’s 7th District championship game against Caldwell County. The start of the contest was delayed 30 minutes as a result.
But once action started, the Lady Maroons were quick to strike.
Abi Center finished a pass from Emma Peyton in the 5th minute to put
Madisonville on top 1-0.
It was the first of two goals by the Lady Maroon junior.
Center put home another shot in the 20th minute with help from Raelynn Blanford.
That was all the offense Madisonville (6-6-1) would need, as the Lady Maroon defense allowed Caldwell (6-5-1) to get few good looks at the offensive end.
Madisonville held a 16-3 advantage in shots in the contest.
Karsyn Parker made eight saves for Caldwell while Kara Franklin needed to make just one stop for Madisonville.
It’s the third-straight district championship for the Lady Maroons.
The Lady Tigers had taken the regular-season meeting between the two teams 2-1 in a penalty-kick shootout.
Both teams will move on to the 2nd Region tournament next week at Henderson County.
