Fall sports in the state’s largest county are coming to a pause. According to a report from WDRB-TV, in Louisville, Jefferson County Public Schools Superintendent Marty Pollio made that announcement in am email to parents following a Friday morning Zoom teleconference with athletic directors.
The decision comes after an increase in COVID-19 cases in the county that has elevated Jefferson County into the “red” status.
In the announcement, Pollio noted that after reviewing this week’s data and guidelines established by the state, Jefferson County will take the following actions:
– Allow contests that fall under KHSAA postseason jurisdiction to proceed as scheduled.
– Play scheduled games for Friday and the weekend.
– Follow KHSAA guidelines which allows practice, but no games or game-like simulations for teams not in the postseason.
– If possible, reschedule games that had been scheduled for the next week.
Pollio goes on to state that Jefferson County will review data again next week and make a decision concerning the following week next Friday morning.
