Dawson Springs hadn’t run in a cross country meet in nearly three weeks due to a self-imposed quarantine due to COVID-19 concerns. The Panthers showed no rust Saturday as they repeated as boys’ Class 1A Region 1 champions in Murray.
The Panthers put five runners in the first nine to cross the finish line to win with 34 points, beating second place University Heights by 28 points.
Brothers Ethan and Lucas Osborn paced the Panthers on the day. Ethan, a sophomore, finished fourth in a time of 19:08 over the 3.1-mile course at Calloway County High School.
Lucas, a freshman, led a strong Panther pack of runners that proved to be key in Dawson Springs’ repeat success. He finished sixth in a time of 19:22. Yosiyah McCune was seventh, Caleb Garrett eighth, and Tyler Hale ninth. Their second through fifth runners were separated by just seven seconds.
Logan McKnight was 17th, and Michael Faughn was 26th.
Dawson Springs will run in next Saturday’s Class 1A State Meet at Bourbon County.
