
Ainsley Smith cruised to the region cross country title on her home course and remained unbeaten on the season heading into the state meet.
The Calloway County senior ran the 3.1-mile course in 20:35, which was 1:43 ahead of teammate and second-place finisher Reese Settle. Smith hasn’t been topped in any 2020 event thus far.
Her finish highlighted a day that saw the Lady Lakers put the first four runners across the finish line and win the region title by 23 points over second place Webster County.
Bella Swain was third in 22:26, and Brooklyn Smith was fourth in 22:30. Sadie Lilly was 16th, Emma Martin was 18th, and Makenzie Price was 20th.
For the guys, Daniel Puckett led the Laker runners with a third place finish in a time of 17:45, which was 45 seconds behind region champion Austin Cavanaugh of Trigg County.
Dominic Cashion was the next Laker to cross the finish line in seventh place. He ran a time of 18:12 over 3.1 miles.
Eli Maggert was 18th, followed by Ethan Futrell in 20th, David Foote in 21st, Nick Caldwell in 23rd, and Carson Bobo in 34th place.
Calloway County finished third as a team behind Webster County and Trigg County.
Both Calloway County teams will compete in the Class 2A State Meet Friday in Paris.
