Webster County dispensed with any drama early as they placed six runners in the top 10 and won its eighth straight boys’ region cross country title Saturday at Calloway County High School.

The Trojans totaled 28 points to finish 28 points ahead of second-place Trigg County and 41 points ahead of third-place Calloway County.

Trevor Baker finished second to Trigg County’s Austin Cavanaugh. Baker covered the 3.1-mile course in 17:34. Aidan Whitsell was fourth in 18:05, and Garrett West was fifth in 18:06.

Layden Wagoner was eighth, Vincent Major was ninth, and Ryan Roland was tenth.  For Roland, it was the first race of the year for the three-time defending region champion who has battled a bout of mono for most of the season.

Grant Warren came in 16th place to round out the Webster County effort.

On the girls’ side, Webster County finished second behind the host and region champ Calloway County.

Reece and Ryleigh Powell led the Lady Trojans on the day. Reece was sixth in a time of 23:04, while Ryleigh was seventh in 23:37.

Ava Stone was 11th, Grayson Haynes was 12th, and Drue Wyatt was 13th for Webster. Delani Baskett finished in 15th place, and Caroline Nally was 22nd.

The Webster County teams will run in the Class 2A State Meet Friday in Paris.
